DAILY ACTIVITIES

Day 1 : You will be met at Cape Town International airport and taken to the Harfield where you will check in, unpack and relax for the morning. A pre-trip briefing will be held at the poolside, once you are rested. Today will be a slow day and late that afternoon you will enjoy a drive to Hout Bay along the coast for dinner at the Fisherman’s Wharf restaurant.

Day 2 : After a great breakfast at the Harfield, be ready to leave around 08.30 for a scenic day trip of the Cape Peninsula, taking you through Muizenberg, Fishoek, Simons Town, Boulders Beach (the home of the Jackass Penguins) down to Cape Point, (the most south western point on the African continent, Cape of good hope, Hout Bay, Chapman’s Peak and table mountain. The trip is only 163kms but with all the sights it will take all day. You will return to the Harfield early evening and then go out for dinner at one of the local restaurants.

Day 3 : Today you will take in a tour of Waterford Winery for a wine and chocolate tasting, a tour of Ernie Ells winery and tasting and a day trip through the wine lands, finishing up at Spier winery where dinner will be at Moyo’s restaurant, a treat not to be missed.

Day 4 : After a leisurely breakfast, you wiill head out to V&A Waterfront where you’ll see the buskers, take in some shopping and a stroll along the waterfront. This will be followed by a tour of the spectacular Kirstenbosch Gardens , then a picnic lunch in the park. Then you’ll head back to Harfield to shower and change and go to dinner.

Day 5 : Today is your first day on the move so bring your bags down to breakfast, and they’ll be loaded in the trailer for the departure to Oudtshoorn. You will leave at 09.30 and should be in Oudtshoorn by 16:30 . This is a great scenic drive through historic route 62 with some fantastic mountain passes and views. You’ll stop along the way and have a picnic lunch and take in a couple of brandy distilleries, one of which still distills brandy over an open flame. After check in, you’ll have some time to relax by the pool, have a drink at the bar or take a nap before dinner.

Day 6 : After a great breakfast, a visit to the Kango Caves and a stroll in the downtown area of Outdshoorn where you can enjoy a light lunch and a glass of wine in an outdoor café After lunch, a visit at the Cheetah and Large Cat Sanctuary. After returning to the Lodge, enjoying a little relaxing time, you’ll head to a great lodge called Buffels Drift overlooking a watering hole for dinner.

Day 7 : Today you bid farewell to the Altes Landhaus and take in the Ostrich Farm before heading to Knysna. You’ll be in Knysna by mid afternoon and check in at the Villa Castalloni, where you can spend the afternoon relaxing and taking in it’s breathtaking views of the lagoons while cooling off in the pool. Later in the evening, off to the waterfront for dinner.

Day 8 : Today is a day where you can do as much or as little as you want to, There are great shops in town to visit, or those who wish for a round of golf, this area boasts some of the best golfing in the world. You can also take in a tour and tasting at Mitchell’s Brewery.

Day 9 : After an early breakfast, you’ll head back to Cape Town , arriving late afternoon via the Garden Route . Stops along the way will include one of the many small fishing villages, and lunch on the coast. You will then be left in the capable hands of the Harfield team, whilst your Guide drives back to Johannesburg , where you will be met on arrival at the airport the following day.

Day 10 : There are many things you have not seen in Cape Town and we can arrange excursions through the lodge. Some of my recommendations are a trip to Robin Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, a township tour, a sailing trip, a tour of the museums and galleries in the city bowl on the ‘hop on, hop off’ bus. You will be collected from the lodge at 16:00 and taken to the airport for your 18:10 flight to Johannesburg . Your Guide will be there to meet you and take you to the Bedfordview. Dinner late that evening will be at a local restaurant.

Day 11: After a leisurely breakfast, take off on any number of day trips with local operators we use. As there is much to see here, a few attractions I’d like to mention are a trip to the Apartheid Museum and a tour of Gold Reef City, a tour of Soweto, a tour of the Museum of Mankind or even a round of golf. Your Guide will meet you on your return to the lodge in the latter part of the afternoon and dinner will be at a local restaurant in Bedfordview.

Day 12 : You’ll leave at around 09:30 and go north to Makwetti Private Lodge in Welgevonden Game Reserve, arriving around 13:00 . After check in, relax and then go on a late afternoon game drive, returning to the lodge for dinner where you’ll be able to watch wildlife at their private watering hole from the comfort of the deck.

Day 13: Early morning wake up with tea and coffee and onto a pre breakfast game drive returning mid morning for breakfast. You will have the opportunity to take in a game walk a little later in the day and another game drive. As the animals are at the slowest during the middle part of the day, you will be able to relax, read, swim or write postcards. In essence, the off times are yours to do as you please. There is also a strong possibility that you will see some wildlife at the watering hole from the deck.

Day 14 : You can have the luxury of sleeping in or taking another pre breakfast drive and the same as yesterday. As you are here, you never know what you may miss so I highly recommend taking in as many game drives as are offered. There is a high concentration of Rhino here this is quickly becoming a rarity in Africa .

Day 15: Today is your last day on this magnificent continent and you can do a game drive in the morning, before having a shower and packing for the drive to the airport. You leave around lunch time and enjoy a farewell dinner in Johannesburg before being dropped at the airport for your flight home.
